Visit Types
Sick Child Visit
A Sick Child Visit is scheduled to focus on one particular acute problem, such as earache, sore throat, fever, vomiting/diahrrea.- If your child is ill, we will do our best to get your child in on the same day with one of our providers. We will try to get you in with your primary doctor, but if that person is unavailable, you may see one of our other providers for a Sick Visit.
- If your child has a medical emergency (e.g., seizures, shock, respiratory distress) or a traumatic injury (e.g., motor vehicle and bicycle crashes, poisoning, drowning ), please call the Pediatric Emergency Department at : 919-416-8206.
Well Child Visit
Well-care, well-baby, or well-child visits are routine visits to the child's physician for:
- physical examinations
- immunization updates
- tracking growth and development
- finding any problems before they become serious
- information on health and safety issues
- information on nutrition and physical fitness
- information on how to manage emergencies and illnesses
Your child's physician will give you a schedule of ages when a well-care visit is suggested.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends this schedule for routine well-care visits:
- 24 to 48 hours after being discharged from the hospital
- 1, 2, 4, 6, 9 and 12 months
- 15, 18 and 24 months
- Annually from 3 to 25 years of age
In addition to these visits, please call and visit your doctor any time your baby or child seems ill or whenever you are worried about your child’s health or development.
Consultation Visit
A Consultation Visit may be more appropriate if your child has special health considerations such as:
- chronic headaches, stomachache, back or joint pain
- allergies or asthma
- behavioral or learning problems
- emotional or family problems
- puberty and concerns about teenage years
- ADHD/behavioral medication consultations
- lactation problems
- nutritional problems (e.g., overweight, picky eater, eating disorders)
- any other chronic or complicated conditions
These visits are allotted more time than the Sick Visits and the Well Child Visits. This will assure that your physician has the appropriate amount of time to spend with you and your child.
Sports or Camp Physicals
- Sports or Camp Physicals are completed at the time of your child's annual Well Child Visit.
- Please bring the sports or camp forms with you to your child’s Well Child Visit, and we will fill them out at that time.
- Forms that are are dropped off or faxed, without your child being seen, will be completed with seven days of receipt. The parent will be notified when the form is ready to be picked up. A Well Child Visit must have been completed within the past 12 months in order for us to complete a sports or camp form.
