Perioperative Services

The Duke Children's Perioperative Unit, located in the Children's Health Center, provides a child-friendly environment for all services associated with the immediate preoperative and postoperative surgical care of infants, children, and adolescents. These services include preoperative evaluation and postoperative recovery. We also provide child and adolescent life specialists who explain surgical procedures and the perioperative experience to the children and their families.

All of the laboratory work, radiology studies, and nursing care is provided by pediatric specialists who are dedicated to the care of children and who are aware of the special stresses children and families experience around a surgical procedure.
