Duke Children's Pediatric Nephrology is a multidisciplinary center that offers expert diagnosis, treatment and management of all types of nephrologic and hypertensive disorders in infants, children, and adolescents. Therapies range from medical management to renal replacement therapy. We offer experienced counseling to families of fetuses diagnosed with renal abnormalities. This program is comprised of skilled and experienced pediatric nephrologists, pediatric radiologists, a pediatric nurse, a pediatric dietitian, and a pediatric social worker who specialize in the care of infants, children and adolescents with kidney disorders. Our mission is to help children with kidney disorders attain the best kidney health possible, and to assist families and primary care physicians in providing high-quality care at home.
Patients with nephrologic disorders are evaluated and managed by pediatric nephrologists assisted by a dedicated team of health care professionals, including a pediatric nurse clinician, nutritionist, social worker, and dialysis technician. Patients who need renal transplant surgery are managed by a pediatric renal transplant surgeon in conjunction with the pediatric nephrologists. Patients with urologic disorders are evaluated and managed by the pediatric urologist. The pediatric urologist and nephrologist work closely together to evaluate and manage children who require the expertise of both in such conditions as abnormalities of the urinary tract, urinary tract infections, and kidney failure from obstructive uropathy.
