Laboratory services for Duke Children's are provided at sites on the Duke University campus and Research Triangle Park. Primary services are provided by the Clinical Pediatric Laboratory located on the 5th floor of Duke University Hospital. It is close to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and convenient to the Mother/Baby and labor & delivery suites.
The lab is designed to respond to the special needs of the Children's Hospital for:
Testing is performed 24 hours a day and a large percentage of the work performed is of an urgent or STAT nature on both venous samples and tedious capillary samples.
The hematology service includes automated cell counters and reticulocyte counters, and advanced testing to support a pediatric bone marrow transplant unit and a clinical service recognized in Hematology/ Oncology.
The integrated service includes a specialized phlebotomy team to accommodate pediatric patients and those adult patients requiring specialized service.
