Host Homes

For family members visiting from out-of-town, Host Home representatives can arrange short-term housing in area private homes or provide rental and apartment information. Some accommodations are free while others charge a nominal fee. Call 919-681-6088 for more information.

Ronald McDonald House

Pediatric patients and their families are eligible for overnight accommodations at the Ronald McDonald House. Outpatients and their families receive priority. A minimal donation is requested. Transportation to and from the Duke Children's Hospital is available during weekdays. Call 919-416-3955.

Ronald McDonald Houses provide a "home-away-from-home" for the families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. The Ronald McDonald House of Durham was built in 1980 to help ease the burden of enormous expense on families with seriously ill children. The frame of the home is as unyielding as a mother's love and the doors open wide enough for any family in the world.

Our days are long, but coming home to you gives us peace.
At least for a little while, we can feel normal again.
And right now, that means more than you can imagine.
We can be a family once more at the Ronald McDonald House of Durham."

Families stay for a modest $10 a night, and sometimes for free if the need is there; sometimes for days, sometimes months. Everyone pitches in, shares the cooking, the cleaning, and enjoys all the comforts of the 22-bedroom home. Since day one, the house has served more than 20,000 families, and attracted hundreds of volunteers.

The Ronald McDonald House contains all of the essentials that a family will need to survive. No need to bring an iron, or a mixer to bake your child's favorite desserts! It is all in the kitchen where meals are prepared three times a day.
