Building Dreams

Atreus Homes and Communities (formerly HomeLife Communities) has built a second Miracle House for Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center. On the first morning of Radiothon, Tuesday, February 12, division president Don Mead presented a $70,000 check to Duke Children's from the sale of the house. . . and more donations followed.

"We are honored that Atreus built this home on our behalf," said Robyn Soffera, public relations manager for Duke Children's Office of Development. "The money raised will make a big difference in the lives of the children we treat."

"If you have ever visited the children at Duke, then you know the struggles these children face," said Don Mead. "Our participation in the Miracle House is just a small way that the employees of Atreus can make life a little easier for these children. We're on board to build a third Miracle House!," he added.

Don is the driving force behind Miracle House and embodies the culture of Atreus Homes and Communities. The company, based in Atlanta, is committed to helping local communities by fostering better educational systems, funding research to cure devastating diseases, supporting the arts, assisting disadvantaged youth, and actively encouraging employee volunteerism.

The beneficiaries of Don's passion reach well beyond Duke. He was the builder for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's recent project in Raleigh, and he's also involved in muscular dystrophy fund-raisers and Katrina relief. His philosophy is to support charitable causes that align with the Atreus Homes and Communities mission and to give back to the communities where Atreus' staff members live and work.

On behalf of Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center, we recognize Don for his passion, charismatic leadership, and steadfast commitment to our patients. Thank you for helping make miracles--and Miracle Houses--happen at Duke Children's.
